I have always loved beautiful things.

Beautiful destinations. A perfectly planned trip. Getting dressed for brunch with friends. The feeling of exceptional craftsmanship. And those special pieces you reach for again and again because somehow, they become part of your memories.

For years, I loved luxury for that feeling.

Then life changed my perspective.

After becoming a mother of two and meeting children and families facing extraordinary challenges, I began thinking differently about the things I valued. I saw how something that might seem small to one person could mean so much to another.

I didn't stop loving beautiful things.

I simply began questioning whether beautiful things needed an extraordinary price tag to feel luxurious.

As a Filipino-American founder, I grew up appreciating the joy found in life's meaningful moments—the people we love, the places we discover, the meals we share, and the memories we carry with us. Motherhood made those values even more meaningful to me.

Then, unexpectedly, I lost my job.

What could have felt like an ending became the push I needed to begin something I had quietly dreamed about for years.

That dream became HYZL.
